How to Pray the Rosary

The Rosary is broken into three sections: introductory prayers, cycling through the mysteries and closing prayers. There are a total of 15 mysteries broken into 3 sets which are named the Joyful Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries and the Glorious Mysteries. After the introductory prayers the first of the five mysteries for the particular set of focus is declared and followed by the Our Father, ten Angelic Salutations, the Glory Be,  Fatima Prayer and Saint Joseph. Afterward, the second mystery of the set of focus is declared and the pattern repeats until all five mysteries have been completed.

From the Roman Catholic Daily Missal 1962, "It has become customary to say only the third part of the Rosary, that is, five decades, each day. In that case, though you may say either the Joyful, Sorrowful or Glorious Mysteries at your choice, yet it is prevalent custom to say the Joyful Mysteries on Mondays and Thursdays as well as the Sundays of Advent; the Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesdays and Fridays, and the Sundays during Lent; and the Glorious Mysteries on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and the Sundays after Easter and Pentecost."

SIGN OF THE CROSS

In the name of the Father, and of the Son  and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.

The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth, and in in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into Hell. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Credo in Spiritum Sanctum, sanctam Ecclesiam Catholicam, sanctorum communionem, remissionem peccatorum, carnis resurrectionem, vitam aeternam. Amen.

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, On earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen

Pater noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur Nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra.  Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

GLORY BE

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

SAINT JOSEPH, PRAY FOR US  / SANCTE IOSEPH, ORA PRO NOBIS

THE HOLY ROSARY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

HAIL HOLY QUEEN

Hail holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us. And after this our exile show unto us the blessed Fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

LET US PRAY
O GOD, Who by the life, death, and resurrection of Thy only-begotten Son, hath purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating on these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

V. Ora pro nobis, Sancta Dei Genetrix.

R. Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi.

OREMUS
Amen.

FOR THE HOLY SOULS IN PURGATORY

And may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Fidelium animae, per misericordiam Dei, requiescant in pace. Amen.

SIGN OF THE CROSS

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.
